THOMPSON PROTESTS AGAINST AIRPORT EXPANSION
Oscar-winning actress EMMA THOMPSON is battling to prevent a controversial expansion of London's Heathrow Airport.
The British Airports Authority (BAA) is hoping to get the go-ahead from the U.K. government to build a further runway, despite public opposition.
And now Thompson has joined forces with green campaigners and other celebrities, including British comedian Alistair MCGowan, to buy the land earmarked for the planned third runway, in an effort to stop the project going ahead.
She says, "We'll stop this from happening even if we have to move in and plant vegetables."
MCGowan adds, "BAA were so confident of getting the government's go-ahead but we have cunningly bought the land they need to build their runway. No government which is serious about climate change would ever think of expanding Heathrow."

Emma Thompson probably has a carbon footprint several times that of Joe
public. She flies in from LA (probably not in economy) and tells us we can't
have a new airport because that would encourage flying.
According to the Airbus, the new plane uses less than 2 litres of fuel per
passenger per 100km. That is 150 miles per person per gallon. Which is better
fuel economy than any car I have ever been in.
Business and First passengers have between four and eight times as much room as
economy class which means that every jolly is euqivalent to a whole family
going on holiday in terms of emissions. An utter waste. If pressed on her
environmental credentials she would be made a laughing stock in light of her
stance.
I strongly support campaigners against the building of a third runway, along
with the concerns and issues that have been put forward. It is an obvious
violation on CO2 emissions and noise pollution, not to mention the destruction
and ill effects on both the local and national population. It would appear
that those in favour of a Heathrow expansion show a disregard for health and
safety. In additon, apparently the CO2 emissions from the Houses of Parliament
are equivalent to the total emissions of Kenya. However, I am not sure whter
this is all government departments or confined to the Houses of Parliament.
Either way, it is a deplorable situation and as Emma Thompson illustrates, we
the people are told to conserve energy and keep our emissions down!
