THE WHO TO RECEIVE US HONOUR
THE WHO are to receive a top US cultural honour from The Kennedy Centre, it has been reported.
Artists from all disciplines are recognised by The Kennedy Centre lifetime contribution awards, with previous winner including BOB DYLAN, FRANK SINATRA and SMOKEY ROBINSON.
It will be the first time a band has received the honour, which will be awarded in Washington following their short tour of the states, reports Uncut.
Writing on the band's website, Pete Townshend said: "This is a great thrill. Since the Who began in the early '60s we have loved American music and audiences and have made deep and lasting friendships with everyone involved in the industry there.
"Roger and I both feel our work in the United States has been as important as our work at home."
Daltrey added that American music had given him "a dream to hang my life on".
It was recently reported that Daltrey is inviting undiscovered songwriters the opportunity to help him pen his next solo album.
