THE VERVE SCRAP GIG
British rockers THE VERVE were forced to cancel a concert in Italy after frontman RICHARD ASHCROFT fell ill.
The singer has been diagnosed with severe throat condition pharyngitis and a chest infection, and ordered to rest for at least a week - meaning the band's planned appearance at Tuscany's Italia Wave Festival on Wednesday (16Jul08) was scrapped.
The band have posted a statement on their official website apologising to fans. It reads, "It is with great regret that The Verve have had to cancel their performance at the Italia Wave Festival.
"This is due to the illness of singer Richard Ashcroft, who has severe pharyngitis (very sore throat) and a chest infection. He has been advised by a doctor to rest and has been prescribed with antibiotics. The Verve wish to apologise to any fans who have bought tickets, and hope to be playing again soon."
