THE TRUTH REMAINS ELUSIVE FOR X FILES AFTER UK DEBUT

The new X Files film has failed to win over sceptical cinemagoers in the UK, opening at number four.

I Want To Believe, which reunites David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, earned £887,209 in its first three days on release to achieve the highest new entry of the week.

But the supernatural thriller could only manage fourth position with last week's top three holding firm.

Anderson said the film's poor performance in the US - where it managed a chart-high of fourth - was due to the huge box office success of The Dark Knight as well as changing audience tastes.

"It's had a bit of a rough time in the States - it's opening against one of the highest grossing movies," she told the BBC at the film's London premiere.

"People in the States are so used to lots of CGI, action and sex and we don't really offer a lot of that in this film."

The Dark Knight retained the top spot with £6.7 million in its second weekend, while Mamma Mia! and WALL-E continued to perform strongly.

Animated comedy Space Chimps debuted at number seven while The Love Guru - Mike Myers' critically-panned new effort - opened at eight.

The top ten films in the UK are: (last week's position)

1 The Dark Knight - £6.7 million (1)
2 Mamma Mia! - £3.2 million (2)
3 WALL-E - £2.1 million (3)
4 The X Files: I Want To Believe - £887,209 (-)
5 Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging - £716,344 (4)
6 Kung Fu Panda - £628,741 (6)
7 Space Chimps - £563,543 (-)
8 The Love Guru - £498,829 (-)
9 Hancock - £498,829 (5)
10 Journey to the Center of the Earth - £163,018 (7)

We say give G.A a ‘Jason Bourne’ type script and expense account …then we’ll see G.A beyond her true light –though she may wish another genre- in a most honest female/woman perspective ...and make Jason look like her nephew. Best, Bro-V
