SUPER FURRY ANIMALS singer GRUFF RHYS is set to work with Scouse rockers THE RASCALS, it has been revealed.

Speaking to 6 Music, MILES KANE, frontman of the Liverpudlian act, revealed that the Welsh star will be twiddling the knobs when the band hit the studio to recorded their second album later this year.

"We're gonna be trying some stuff with Gruff. We've got to set the date and that but yeah, I'm very excited to try it with him and see where we go because I really respect him and he's a nice fella," he said.

The Rascals are set to return to the studio over the summer, but they will be looking to take a new direction, according to Kane.

He claimed that fans can expect a more John Lennon or T-Rex vibe to the forthcoming material.

As well as this, the band are looking for a studio based in a surrounding which will suit the summer feel of the songs, Kane explained.

"We hopefully want to go away to somewhere like Wales, somewhere green, and make a boss record," he added.

It has also been nice to get away from the "madness" of gigging and sit down and write some new tracks, the singer stated.

Kane also has an award ceremony to look forward to later this year, after his side project THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS were nominated in the Ivor Novello Best Song category for the track MY MISTAKES WERE MADE FOR YOU.

Commenting on the matter, Kane stated that it is "very prestigious" to even be considered for the award and added "so thank you, Ivor."

Born on January 15th 1893, Ivor Novello was a Welsh composer, singer and actor who performed in a series of acclaimed shows in the first half of the 20th century. He died on March 6th 1951.
