THE PREACHER SET FOR US TV
Cult comic book character THE PREACHER is set for a rebirth on US TV after director KEVIN SMITH's plans to turn the project into a major movie fell flat. Smith, a comic book aficionado, planned to make a film about the Vertigo character, who became a cult figure in the late 1990s - and had enlisted X-MEN star JAMES MARSDEN for the lead role, according to industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter. But the project was scrapped and now bosses at US cable network HBO are developing a one-hour series based on the comic. The Preacher's story focuses on a struggling Texas clergyman possessed by a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. He embarks on an epic journey across America to find God with the help of an ex-girlfriend and an alcoholic vampire. The new TV series has been created by Irish writer GARTH ENNIS and British artist STEVE DILLON.
