THE POLICE INVITED TO PLAY CUBA

Cuban fans of the Police could soon see them perform on their own soil after the country's government invited them to play there.

The legendary music group have been asked to play a gig in Cuba this December, Fox News reports. If it goes ahead it would be the last show in the north American leg of the band's world tour.

Sting, the Police's lead singer, and his wife Trudi Styler recently visited the Caribbean island and met with some of the island's musicians and poets.

"They were overwhelmed by the Cuban culture and the arts and the musicality," a source told Fox.

"The people were very generous to them with their time."

It will not be the first time in Cuba for Police bandmembers Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, as they played at a concert there in 1999.

After reforming, the Police will undertake a world tour later this year. Kicking off in May in Vancouver, the tour finishes in Toronto in November.

The group is also one of the headline acts for the Live Earth concert in London this summer.
