THE COVENANT CLAIMS TOP SPOT AT WEAK US BOX OFFICE

Teen horror film THE COVENANT has claimed the top spot at the US box office this weekend (08-10SEP06) with a take of just $9 million (GBP5 million) - the lowest total for a number one movie for three years. BEN AFFLECK's critically acclaimed new film HOLLYWOODLAND takes second spot with a gross of $6 million (GBP3.3 million). Affleck plays TV Superman GEORGE REEVES, who died under mysterious circumstances after wowing TV audiences in the 1950s as SUPERMAN. American football film INVINCIBLE, which stars MARK WAHLBERG, slips from the number one spot last week to number three with $5.7 million (GBP3.2 million). Martial arts movie THE PROTECTOR, which stars Thai actor TONY JAA, opens in fourth place with $5 million (GBP2.8 million). Action film CRANK rounds out the top five with $4.8 million (GBP2.8 million).
