OPRAH WINFREY's THE COLOR PURPLE stage musical will fade to black on 24 February (08) when the curtain comes down on the Broadway show after more than 940 performances. The spectacular play, based on Alice Walker's novel and Steven Spielberg's 1985 movie, has been a big hit at New York's Broadway Theatre during it's three-year run. It has grossed over $103 million (GBP51.5 million), according to BroadwayWorld.com. In U.S. touring productions and on Broadway, the show has featured star turns from American Idol stars LaToya London and Fantasia Barrino and former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams. The Broadway show currently stars Chaka Khan and BeBe Winans.
