THE CLASH PHOTOGRAPHER HONOURED

The photographer who took the iconic cover shot for THE CLASH's 1979 album LONDON CALLING has been honoured for her work in the industry.
Pennie Smith was presented with a prize for outstanding contribution by Blur rocker Graham Coxon at the Record of the Day Awards in London on Thursday (27Nov08).
Madonna and R.E.M.'s publicist Barbara Charone was handed a similar award at the event, which celebrates the best in music journalism and PR.
Charone, who was sent a video message by rockers R.E.M. to congratulate her for the prize, used her speech to pay tribute to former U2 record boss Rob Partridge, who lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday (26Nov08).
