THANKFUL TRAVELLERS MCFLY

British boy band McFly have revealed public transport helped boost their careers in many ways.

McFly believe public transport helped them make it as a band.

The 'Obviously' hitmakers - consisting of lead singer and guitarists Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, bassist Dougie Poynter and drummer Harry Judd - say they owe a lot of their success to travelling on busses and trains.

Danny explained: "When I was 16, when I first got in the band actually, I used to travel down to London on Virgin trains from Manchester to London. It would give me time to think and reflect and write some lyrics.

"Also, if you travel with busses, you never know what you're going to find. I basically found a purse with lots of money in, handed it into the police, got it back two weeks later.

"There was £1200 in there...I used it to buy my first guitar, my first decent acoustic. I still use it today!"

Although drummer Dougie admits public transport hasn't helped his songwriting skills, he notes McFly are not the only band to use long journeys to their musical advantage.

He explained to eco-charity Global Cool: "Well, I've never written a song while I'm on public transport, but apparently George Michael wrote that song 'Guilty Feet' on a bus while on his way back from school or something."
