TENNANT SLAMS CAMPAIGN CONCERTS
PET SHOP BOYS frontman NEIL TENNANT has slammed "campaign concerts" like this summer's (07) Live Earth gig - because he hates the idea of musicians preaching to the public.
The singer believes it is arrogant to suggest celebrities know more about big issues than the average person on the street.
And he accuses campaigning rocker Bono of using high-profile do-gooding concerts such as 1985's Live Aid, Live8 in 2005 and Live Earth in July (07) to increase his own fame.
Tennant says, "I've always been against the idea of rock stars lecturing people as if they know something the rest of us don't - it looks arrogant. It's not as if they have a private source of information. To state the obvious as if you are the only person that knows it is intellectually weak.
"Bono uses his celebrity but in doing so he increases his celebrity. I've never been totally convinced that the rest of U2 feel comfortable with that."

Bono uses his celebertiy to get into doors that the average person could never
get into. He doesn't need to work on humanatarian causes-ie Africa- for his
celebertiy it was already there, and I think you're a lot jeaoulous that you
just don't carry the same weight as Bono does. Why don't you get up of your
a**, and start doing something for someone else. Haven't you ever heard that
giving is better than recieving. I think not.
God Bless, Robyn
P.S Bono is not doing this for any other reason except that he believes his
faith expects him to do something, especially for the extreme poor. Faith is a
powerful thing.
What a conceited oaf. Not all singers are dumb -- some are brilliant and caring
and not all wrapped up in their own ego. Bono knows more about aid to Africa,
and feels Africa's pain, than many who work in the field. This looks like a
case of somebody wanting to get noticed by slamming somebody else. If Tennant
wants to be famous let him do something to earn that fame. Like Bono has done.
