TENNANT RETURNS TO THE STAGE
DOCTOR WHO star DAVID TENNANT made a triumphant return to the London stage for the final week of HAMLET performances after a back injury forced him to pull out of the West End play.
The Scottish actor scrapped his run in the Shakespeare classic last month (Dec08) after suffering a slipped disc and subsequently undergoing surgery to correct the condition.
Tennant proved he is recovering well after stepping onstage at the Novello Theatre on Saturday (03Jan09) and receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
However there are no guarantees he will finish his run in the play, which is due to finish on 10 January (09).
A spokesperson for the Royal Shakespeare Company says, "We will be assessing David's return to each Hamlet performance on a day by day basis so patrons are being invited to check our website from 12 noon each day for an update for that evening's performance."
