TARRANT DENIES ASSAULT CLAIMS

British TV host CHRIS TARRANT has played down reports he assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic incident, insisting the couple simply had a drunken argument.
The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter was arrested earlier this month (Mar09) after his lover Jane Bird reportedly alleged she was attacked at his home in Esher, south England.
Tarrant was later released without charge - and he has now denied assaulting his girlfriend.
He says, "'We had a row - it happens. We were both a bit tipsy, we'd had some fine wine. We might have had a few bottles. Someone called the police, but I want to emphasise that absolutely nothing physical happened.
"There was some shouting and arguing but I absolutely did not try to push her out of the front door. I went to the police station and after they did their investigation I was released - I was only there for two hours in the cell. A nice policeman gave me a lift home in his personal car."
