T-PAIN HIT WITH BREACH OF CONTRACT LAWSUIT OVER CANCELLED GIG
Singer/rapper T-PAIN is facing a $5 million (£3.4 million) legal battle with concert promoters in Guyana after pulling out of a gig because of death and kidnapping threats.
The Can't Believe It hitmaker, real name Faheem Najm, was scheduled to perform as part of the carnival celebrations in the South American country in February (23Feb09).
But he cancelled the show after finding himself targetted by an unidentified attacker, who was threatening him in emails and telephone calls.
Now T-Pain, his company Nappy Boy Touring and promotions firm Chase Entertainment have been slapped with a breach of contract lawsuit by executives at Hits and James Entertainment.
They claim T-Pain's last-minute cancellation caused chaos for them, insisting reports of the death threats were never substantiated.
They also allege the star made excessive demands for his tour rider, which included plane tickets for an entourage of 12, a four star hotel, a private jet, and FBI protection.
T-Pain was reportedly given a $75,000 (£51,725) advance, which Chase Entertainment officials have offered to return to Hits and James.
Chase Entertainment's David Abram says, "We feel horrible about not being able to play the concert. We are going to do what needs to be done to make this right with the promoters. They're a good company. We're a good company.''
But Hits and James Entertainment bosses have pressed ahead with legal action, filing their lawsuit in Broward Circuit Court in Florida on Monday (23Mar09).
They are also suing for libel, defamation and are seeking damages and legal costs.
