SUTHERLAND TURNED ON TO ACTING BY HIS MOTHER

KIEFER SUTHERLAND was inspired to take up acting after witnessing an amazing performance by his mother SHIRLEY DOUGLAS when he was a teenager.
The 24 star had no interest in a screen career when he was growing up, because he didn't want to follow in his mother and father Donald Sutherland's footsteps.
But watching Douglas in a stage play when he was a teenager turned Sutherland's entire world on its head, and he became obsessed with acting.
He tells U.K. TV show This Morning, "I don't think either of my parents wanted me to be an actor, and because they were so successful I didn't want to be an actor. But I saw her when I was 13 and she gave a performance that was so incredible that somewhere between the first and second acts, I forgot it was my mother.
"I realised it has a powerful effect and that sparked an interest, and I fell in love with it. It took a lot for me to finally commit and say 'This is what I want to do'."
