SUPERMAN FLIES HIGH AT US BOX OFFICE
SUPERMAN RETURNS failed to shatter box office records, but still took in $52.15 million (GBP29 million) during its opening weekend, claiming the top spot and lifting its five-day total to $84.2 million (GBP47 million). The Man of Steel finished far behind SPIDER-MAN 2, the record-holder for best five-day opening with $152.4 million (GBP85 million) over Fourth of July weekend in 2004. New release MERYL STREEP-starring THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA was an impressive debut in second place with $27 million (GBP15 million). Last week's number one film, ADAM SANDLER's comedy CLICK, fell to third place with $19.4 million (GBP11 million). Rounding out the top five were animated movie CARS with $14 million (GBP8 million) and funnyman JACK BLACK's film NACHO LIBRE about Mexican wrestlers with $6.2 million (GBP3.4 million) respectively.
