SUCHET LEADS BRITISH NOMINATIONS AT INTERNATIONAL EMMYS

David Suchet has been nominated for an International Emmy for his portrayal of media tycoon Robert Maxwell.

The BBC 4 drama Maxwell joins a number of British shows nominated for the television awards, including Shaun the Sheep, the IT crowd and Life on Mars.

The New York award ceremony will take place on November 24th and the British contingent will be hoping to emulate the success witnessed last year when Little Britain, Death of a President and How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria? walked away with prizes.

British productions are represented in eight of the ten categories announced by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, representing the most nominations for any one country.

"Every year, the International Emmy awards put the spotlight on the best international television, and, increasingly, we recognise programmes that are soon-to-be hit shows around the world, including the United States," Emmy academy president Bruce Paisner said.

The prestigious competition takes place over six months with three rounds of judging involving over 600 judges in 50 countries.
