STRUMMER BENEFIT TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets are now on sale for a special benefit concert in November marking the fifth anniversary of the legendary Acton Town Hall show by Clash frontman Joe Strummer in 2002.
The show was a fundraiser for striking fire fighters and took place a short time before Strummer's death on December 22nd 2002.
Labelled Arms Aloft in Acton Town, the benefit show will take place on November 15th and will be headlined by Billy Bragg who will be joined by former Clash members Mick Jones and Topper Headon as well as members of the Staines band Hard-Fi.
Some of the proceeds from the show will be given to the Jail Guitar Doors campaign - organised by Bragg in memory of Joe Strummer - which aims to provide instruments to prisons throughout the country.
Bragg said that hearing the Clash when he was 19 changed his life and Jail Guitar Doors was a "project that underscored the transformative power of music".
The benefit show is supported by the Fire Brigades Union and the Left Field Stage at Glastonbury.
Geoff Martin, director of the Left Field at the summer festival, said that the original show had been an "incredible night" which saw Strummer and Jones on stage together for the first time in almost 20 years.
"The shock news of Joe's death just a few weeks later came as a real blow to all of us fighting for social justice but this show will give us a chance to come together and recharge the batteries," he added.
