STRICTLY CHAMPION TOM: I WANT TO BE NEXT FRED ASTAIRE

Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers has revealed he is close to fulfilling a long-held ambition of emulating his screen idol Fred Astaire.

The 31-year-old says he is close to giving up his television career in favour of pursuing his own dance film project.

According to the Sun, the Holby City actor has already turned down two new TV offers from the BBC.

"I could stay at Holby forever but my ambition is to do an old Fred Astaire-style film," Chambers told the tabloid.

"I've been writing one for five years. My idols are Fred and Ginger Rogers. They inspired me when I was a little kid."

Chambers, who has played Dr Sam Strachan in Holby for the last two years, won Strictly with dance partner Camilla Dallerup after controversially being given a bye into the final when a voting mix up meant it would be impossible for the public to save him from being kicked off.

In the final however his foxtrot and salsa knocked Rachel Stevens and Lisa Snowdon into second and third place respectively.
