STRICKEN MORRISSEY THANKS FANS FOR SUPPORT
MORRISSEY has thanked fans for their support as he recovers in hospital after a mystery onstage collapse.
The former Smiths frontman was carried away by two bandmates minutes into a gig in Swindon, south west England on Saturday night (24Oct09).
Ambulance crews were called to the venue amid reports the singer was unconscious and struggling to breathe.
Dramatic photographs of the incident show Morrissey kneeling on the floor of the stage with his head bowed as a concerned crew member stands over him.
He was taken to hospital and kept in overnight for observation. His condition was described as "stable" as WENN went to press, but no further details of his illness were made available.
A statement on his official website reads: "Morrissey is in stable condition after his collapse in Swindon Saturday night. Thanks go out to all his well wishers, more information will be posted as soon as it is available."
Meanwhile, fans fear the singer will axe a number of shows on his current tour as a result of the incident. He has spent much of this year (09) on the road but has frequently cancelled concerts, citing an unspecified illness. He is next due to perform in Bournemouth, south England, on Monday (26Oct09).
