STREISAND MEMORABILIA GOING UNDER THE HAMMER

Hollywood icon BARBRA STREISAND is clearing out her closet and selling off hundreds of collectibles from her longrunning career for charity.
The singer/actress is downsizing her estate by giving fans the chance to get their hands on 400 personal items, including stage costumes from films like Funny Girl and Meet the Fockers, designer dresses, a baby grand piano, and an old phonograph she purchased when she was just 18.
She says, "What good does it do in storage? Let someone else enjoy it. These things, they're not forever. We pass them on and reap the benefits for something important."
The auction also includes several pieces of fine art from artists such as Kees van Dongen and Frans Verhas, and Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions, which will be holding the sale, is delighted at the range of items going under the hammer.
He says, "That's what's great about this sale. It covers fine art, decorative art, which could fetch hundreds of thousands to smaller items for $100. There's something for everyone.
"She's a living legend, a living icon and that's what makes her collectable."
Profits from the two-day auction, which starts on 17 October (09), will be donated to her Streisand Foundation, which gives grants to various good causes.
