STREISAND, FREEMAN AND THE WHO STARS RECEIVE KENNEDY CENTER HONORS

BARBRA STREISAND, THE WHO stars PETE TOWNSHEND and ROGER DALTREY and actor MORGAN FREEMAN are the newest recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors for their achievements in performing arts.
The prestigious accolade, recognising individuals who have had an impact on American culture, were awarded in Washington, D.C. at the weekend (06/07Dec08).
The two-day affair began with a State Department dinner hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Saturday and a tribute concert featuring Ne-Yo, B.B. King and Rob Thomas on Sunday.
Other recipients recognised at the 31st annual ceremonies included country singer George Jones and dancer/choreographer Twyla Tharp.
Oscar-winning Freeman, who made headlines in August (08) after suffering broken bones in a car crash, wore a glove on his left hand to control the swelling, telling reporters he was still recovering from nerve damage.
British rockers Townshend and Daltrey were recognised for their role in helping to revive interest in American blues music with songs like My Generation.
Accepting the honour, Daltrey said: "This country has done so much for us."
The awards show will air in the U.S. on 30 December (08).
