STONE FINDS WAR FILMS THERAPEUTIC

Director OLIVER STONE found the making of his "Vietnam Trio" of movies therapeutic - after part of him was "ruined" by the Vietnam war. The Hollywood filmmaker, who directed PLATOON, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY and HEAVEN AND EARTH, admits he was deeply affected by his time as a soldier in Vietnam, but making movies about the conflict helped him to cope with the experience. He says, "Part of me was ruined by the war. "I did not particularly suffer nightmares afterwards and I think I came out of it relatively stable compared to some. "It was impossible to be the same person any longer. I could never cross back to the generation I grew up with and my films reflect that. "In doing my three Vietnam films, it was wonderful to get things from Vietnam out."
