STING HONOURS 'GENEROUS' PAVAROTTI
Rocker STING has paid an emotional tribute to opera legend LUCIANO PAVAROTTI ahead of a tribute concert honouring the Italian tenor.
The Police frontman will take to the stage on Sunday (12Oct08) for a special show in Petra, Jordan - sponsored by the Italian tenor's widow Nicoletta Mantovani and Princess Haya of Jordan - marking what would have been Pavarotti's 73rd birthday.
And Sting is full of praise for the late maestro, insisting his contribution to music enriched the world.
He says, "He had a big appetite this man, he had a big appetite for everything. He had an appetite for life but it was matched by a huge generosity with spirit. Luciano was a big man, he had a big heart and that generosity was transformed to his voice - and when we heard his voice, all of us were richer."
The event on Sunday will also feature performances from Andrea Bocelli as well as Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, who performed with the Italian as part of the Three Tenors.
Pavarotti died on 6 September 2007 after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer.
