STEWART: 'PUNK INSPIRED EURYTHMICS'

Former EURYTHMICS star DAVE STEWART credits an unusual source with inspiring the band's iconic electro sound - the British punk scene in the late 1970s. Stewart swapped his guitar to pioneer Eurythmics' trademark synthesiser sound thanks to THE CLASH and the SEX PISTOLS. He says, "After The Clash and the Sex Pistols, I felt that there was no point playing the guitar - they had captured a moment so brilliantly that any resemblance to guitar music sounded weak and transparent. "So I pawned my guitar and bought a synthesiser and a drum machine."
