STEVIE G: I WANT TO BE BOND

Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard has hinted at a future acting career after he retires from the game, including a wish to play James Bond on the big screen.

The midfielder told journalists at the Cannes film festival he could "follow in the footsteps" of Eric Cantona and Zinedine Zidane by moving into cinema.

"Who knows? I'm getting old as a footballer now, coming up to 29, maybe in years to come I'll go down that road," he told CNN.

When asked what genre he could see himself in, the Liverpool captain responded that he would "like to go down the Bond route, the all action hero type role," with wife Alex Curran as his Bond girl.

Gerrard is in Cannes to support the directors of British comedy Charles Noades RIP, who are close personal friends.

He said he was "laughing all the way through" the film at a preview screening and explained his trip to Cannes would go someway to returning the favour to his friends for watching him turn out for the Reds and the Three Lions.

Manchester United legend Cantona can next be seen in Ken Loach's Looking for Eric, while French icon Zidane starred in Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait.
