STEVE MCQUEEN MEMORABILIA SELLS BIG AT AUCTION
Sunglasses belonging to late acting legend STEVE MCQUEEN have sold for a staggering $650,000 (GBP360,000) at an auction in Los Angeles. The blue-tinted Persol shades, worn by the actor in 1968 movie THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, were among 225 items put up for sale by MCQueen's widow BARBARA at LA auction house Bonham's. MCQueen's Indian Sport Scout motorbike was sold for $150,000 (GBP85,000) and a ballpoint pen fetched $2,200 (GBP1,225). According to reports, tycoons BILL GATES and DONALD TRUMP were among high bidders. Auctioneer MARK OSBORNE explains the high price for MCQueen memorabilia, "If MCQueen drove it, rode it or wore it, it was cool." The actor died in 1980 at the age of 50.
