STEREOPHONICS SEARCHED AFTER DRUGS BARON JOKE

Rockers STEREOPHONICS were chased by cops for two miles (3.2 kilometres) and had their tour bus searched on Sunday (21Sep08) - after joking that they were pals with legendary drugs baron HOWARD MARKS.
The Welsh chart stars were pursued by Canadian police when their driver failed to pull over following a parking violation.
After a two-mile chase, the band eventually spoke to the officials - but landed in even more hot water by name checking one of the world's most famous drug smugglers, fellow Welshman Marks.
Singer Kelly Jones says, "What a day. We got chased by the cops for two miles - for illegal parking. We got stopped and searched and we had to unload the trailer.
"It was aggressive border control. One of the guards started talking about a guy who used to smuggle drugs through bands' equipment. I said: 'Are you talking about Howard Marks? He's my friend.' You can imagine the rest."
After searching the bus, police realised they were innocent and let them continue on their journey.
Marks, once Britain's most wanted man, was jailed for 25 years in the U.S. in 1990 after a worldwide operation to smash his massive cannabis empire. He was released on parole in 1995 and now makes a living giving talks about his smuggling career.
