STEREOPHONICS FRONTMAN INJURES ARM
Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has said that he feared his guitar career could be over after a nightclub fracas left him with a deep gash in his arm.
The 33-year-old has reportedly undergone surgery twice after receiving the injury in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Jones sustained the gash outside London's Amika nightclub, where he and fellow band members were attending an after-show bash following the Vodafone Live Music awards.
A statement issued by the Stereophonics claimed that Jones was wounded after being involved in an "altercation with an over-zealous security guard".
Speaking to the Sun newspaper from his hospital bed, Jones said: "The wound is very serious."
He added: "The surgeons said if the gash had been just one millimetre nearer the tendon that could have been it I might not have been able to pick up a guitar again."
The singer told the paper that he had gashed his arm on a glass vase as bouncers tried to remove him and a friend from the nightclub, after they attempted to speak to some female pals in the ladies' toilets.
As a result of Jones' injury the Stereophonics were forced to cancel an appearance in Cambridge to record Channel 4's Transmission show.
Still, fans of the Welsh band will be relieved to hear that the group's new single It Means Nothing will be released on Monday.
