STELLA MCCARTNEY PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE MUM

Designer STELLA MCCARTNEY has paid homage to her late mother LINDA MCCARTNEY - hailing her as a fashion icon in her own right.
The style guru daughter of Sir Paul MCCartney rarely speaks publicly about her mother, who managed to see her daughter's first runway show just months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995. She lost her battle with the disease in 1998.
But Stella will always remember her mum as a style icon - because she rebelled against the fashion-set by donning wacky outfits.
She tells Harper's Bazaar magazine, "I love the way my mother wore clothes. She used to wear odd, different-colour argyle socks but then she also wore beautiful tailored British suits and little tea dresses with platform shoes.
"That's sort of how people dress now so she was very modern and ahead of her time in many ways. She really didn't give a damn about what people thought and back then it was all about conforming. It really wasn't the done thing to reflect your personality through your clothes."
And MCCartney insists her photographer mother wasn't interested in acclaim or praise - despite her many achievements.
She adds, "She was also an amazing photographer. Much of her work launched Rolling Stone magazine and at the same time she was very modest. If she had met the Queen she would have been more interested in talking to the butler. That's just the way she was."
