STARS SUPPORT CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
A host of stars including JESSICA ALBA, KATIE HOLMES and ROSARIO DAWSON have all lent their support to a charity which aims to tackle violence against women. The actresses were among the big names who attended a luncheon in Los Angeles on Thursday (10Jan08) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of V-Day - a global effort to help victims of domestic violence. Katie Holmes - who was inspired to join the campaign by Paula Wagner, a business associate of her husband Tom Cruise - gave an emotional speech at the fundraiser gala. She said, "It's important for women to support each other and communicate with each other and be each other's friends. We should be working on stopping violence for people, for everyone." But it was Fantastic Four star Jessica Alba who lightened the mood by reading a poem and making jokes about her pregnancy - warning the audience that she was "popping out" of her dress. She said, "If you guys don't know, I'm pregnant. You're all women. I think you understand your breasts are engorged and your stomach is getting bigger by the second." V-Day will celebrate its anniversary with a two-day event at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, in April (08).
