STARS COME OUT FOR COMMON'S CHARITY GIG

Hip-hop icons NAS, QUEEN LATIFAH, KANYE WEST, THE ROOTS and DE LA SOUL joined forces on Saturday (26Sep09) when they hit the stage in Los Angeles to show their support for rapper COMMON's charity fundraiser.
The Go! hitmaker brought out a host of his rap pals including Ludacris, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Heavy D for his Common & Friends benefit concert at the Hollywood Palladium.
The night was full of surprise collaborations, with Ludacris and Nas uniting for a rendition of I Do It for Hip-Hop, while Nas and Common hit the stage for N.Y. State of Mind.
Mos Def and Kweli treated fans to an impromptu Black Star reunion, while West proved there was no love lost between him and his fans following his infamous MTV Video Music Awards rant when he teamed up with Common and performed a slew of his hits.
They were later joined by Mos Def and Kweli for a run-through of West's verse on Jay-Z's Run This Town, and Queen Latifah got the crowd worked up when she took fans back to the 1990s for a performance of her 1993 hit U.N.I.T.Y.
All proceeds from the night were donated to the Common Ground charity, which aims to empower and help the development of youths in the U.S.
