STAPP ASSAULT CHARGE REDUCED

LATEST: Former CREED star SCOTT STAPP's assault charge following a fight with his wife has been reduced to a misdemeanour. The rocker had been charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony after he was arrested at his home on Sunday (20May07). Police were called to the residence on Long Lake Estates in Palm Beach County, Florida after neighbours heard a disturbance, and took the 33-year-old into custody. However, Judge Cory J. Ciklin reduced the charge yesterday (21May07) "because the allegation is that Stapp threw a bottle of Orangina at his wife, at her head, and missed and the bottle broke," sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said. Miller adds, "Based on the circumstances, the defense attorney argued that was not a deadly weapon." Stapp's lawyer Robert Gershman says, "The facts against him are weak. The judge saw that." The singer is back at his home but will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, Miller reveals. Stapp wed former Miss New York Jaclyn Nesheiwat last year (06). They have a baby daughter, Milan Hayat Stapp.
