SPRINGSTEEN HELPS WILCO BRUSH OFF BOOS AT BONNAROO
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN helped rockers WILCO get over fears they would be booed off stage at the Bonnaroo music festival - the band convinced themselves the crowd was cheering for the legendary star.
Springsteen and The E Street Band, who co-headlined the Tennessee festival with rockers Phish, gave a rare festival performance on Saturday (13Jun09) after Wilco finished their set.
Nervous frontman Jeff Tweedy admitted his worst fear was being heckled by harsh music critics when he took over the mic, but managed to calm his fears by blaming The Boss' die hard fans.
Stepping on stage he told the crowd: "If anybody boos us tonight, we have a built in excuse: They're just yelling 'Bruce'."
Bonnaroo concludes on Sunday night (14Jun09) with a second set from Phish.
Other acts performing at the festival included the Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Elvis Costello and MGMT.
