SPINAL TAP REUNITE FOR LIVE EARTH
Spoof rockers SPINAL TAP are to reunite for a special performance at the London leg of this year's (07) Live Earth concert series, joining the likes of Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Genesis at Wembley Stadium in July (07).
The fictitious heavy metal group - played by actors Michael MCKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer - will resurrect their roles as David St Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls respectively for the 7 July gig, where they will also screen a 10-minute comedy sketch to the 90,000-strong crowd.
A source says, "The sketch they've filmed is hilarious. It shows them driving around in 4X4s, leaving all the lights on in their mansions and generally sticking two fingers up to the problems of climate change. But they soon realise the error of their ways."
The trio rose to fame as the subject of 1984 spoof documentary This Is Spinal Tap.
Live Earth concerts, organised by former US Vice President Al Gore, will also be held in New Jersey, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo on 7 July (07), in a bid to highlight the issue of climate change.
