SPICE GIRLS PIP LED ZEPPELIN TO LIVE REUNION AWARD

The Spice Girls were the surprise winners of the best music reunion prize at the Vodafone Live Music awards, ahead of reformed rockers Led Zeppelin.

The Verve and James were also nominated for the award but despite more than a million people applying for tickets to Led Zeppelin's one-off reunion show at London's O2 Arena, the Girl Power group's hugely popular world tour was given the award.

Emma Bunton was the only member of the quintet present at the Brixton Academy and admitted she was "a bit shocked" to beat Led Zeppelin to the prize.

"We had a great time," she said of the comeback tour. "So I just feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to do it again.

"The thing is, when you go to a gig, you go for fun and entertainment and a night out," she told the BBC.

"And that's exactly what we did and I think that's why people enjoyed it so much."

Primal Scream claimed the best live act award, ahead of Muse, the Verve and Kaiser Chiefs, as well as the outstanding contribution to live music gong, while the best female prize was awarded to Kate Nash, with Duffy, Estelle and Amy Winehouse also nominated.

T in the Park was voted the best festival, with Take That claiming best tour and Mark Ronson winning live male.

Mancunian duo the Ting Tings were named best breakthrough act and Kings of Leon were crowned best international act, ahead of the release of their fourth album.
