SPEARS PLANNING TO RETURN TO LOUISIANA

LATEST: BRITNEY SPEARS is planning to build a new home in her native Louisiana and move back to the state, according to her lawyer MICHAEL FLANAGAN.
Addressing the jury on the first day of Spears' driving without a license trial in Van Nuys, California, Flanagan insisted his client doesn't need a California state license - because of her complicated residency situation.
Spears, who was not in court, was arrested and charged with failing to produce a valid license following a car crash last year (07).
She had a Louisiana state license, but not a California one.
Flanagan insisted his client had attempted to get a proper state license but the authorities couldn't accommodate her plans.
He then indicated that Spears won't be calling Los Angeles home for much longer - he told the jurors the singer is building a new home in Louisiana, and hopes to move back there after she can regain custody of her sons Jayden James and Sean Preston from their father Kevin Federline.
The prosecution in the driving license trial rested on Thursday afternoon (16Oct08). Spears is not expected to testify but her father Jamie will speak on her behalf.
If convicted, Spears faces a maximum six months in jail and a $1,000 (GBP540) fine.
