SPACEY: 'I WON'T LEAVE INDEPENDENT CINEMA'

KEVIN SPACEY has pledged his allegiance to independent movies, despite starring in blockbuster SUPERMAN RETURNS. The Oscar-winning AMERICAN BEAUTY star accepts he is more comfortable as a character actor and is keen to continue filming edgy, low-budget dramas. He says, "I'll never be a leading man in the traditional Hollywood sense, I'm a character actor, but as a result of that I think I get a lot more interesting parts. "Last year the top movies were all independent, edgy films, not necessarily done on high budgets, but many of them have ended up in the horse race that we like to call the Academy Awards. "I found it a very encouraging year in terms of the quality of the scripts and the performances."
