SODERBERGH FEELS SORRY FOR STUDIO AFTER MOVIE FLOP
Director STEVEN SODERBERGH feels bad for movie studio Warner Bros., because its decision to take a risk on his quirky new movie THE GOOD GERMAN proved to be a wrong one.
The $32 million (GBP16.4 million) budget film, which stars GEORGE CLOONEY, TOBEY MAGUIRE and CATE BLANCHETT, has become a critical and commercial flop in the US.
And Soderbergh fears Warner Bros. will stop taking risks because of failures like The Good German.
He says, "I feel bad for Warners. I don't like losing money for anybody.
"More importantly, the person coming in behind me to pitch something that's off the beaten track - well, sorry, but that's just not going to happen. We've shut the door on that for a while.
"That's really sad. Not for me - I got to make the movie, I'm happy. But the two or three people behind me will have to go elsewhere."
