SLUMDOG'S DANNY BOYLE WINS BEST DIRECTOR OSCAR
Danny Boyle has won the best director Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire at the 81st Academy awards.
The Trainspotting helmer followed his Bafta and Golden Globe awards with his first Oscar at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
Also nominated were Gus Van Sant (Milk), David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) and Stephen Daldry (The Reader).
Boyle paid tribute to the show organisers before thanking his three children, wife, sisters and father.
"To Mumbai
all of you that helped us make the film and all of you didn't - thank you so much. You dwarf even this guy," he added, in reference to his best director Oscar.
Slumdog Millionaire had already claimed six Oscars, including best original score and best adapted screenplay.
