SLATER: 'DRUGS CAN BE SAFE'
CHRISTIAN SLATER has provoked outrage by claiming hard drugs can be safe. The former hellraiser, 38, has a well-documented history with drug abuse - in 1997, he completed a two-month stint in prison after punching his then-girlfriend, Michelle Jonas, while high on heroin in a Los Angeles club. He was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of battery, but the felony charges were later dropped. And although Slater has been clean for a number of years now, he maintains the danger of narcotics is over-hyped. He tells Arena magazine, "The last time I had ecstasy was five years ago. There's no question that in proper quantities and the right manner, drugs are fine."
