SIR RIDLEY SCOTT: 'SCI-FI IS DEAD'

Film maker SIR RIDLEY SCOTT has proclaimed the science fiction genre dead. The British Blade Runner director claims the likes of Independence Day, The War Of The Worlds and The Matrix movies are pale in comparison to his 1982 epic and the "best" sci-fi ever, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Speaking at a 25th anniversary screening of Blade Runner at the Venice Film Festival, Scott says, "There's nothing original. We've seen it all before. Been there. Done it. There is an over-reliance on special effects as well as weak storylines."
