SIMPSON: 'BOOK WAS NOT A CONFESSION'

LATEST: OJ SIMPSON insists his ill-fated book IF I DID IT was not his confession to the murders of his ex-wife NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON and her friend RON GOLDMAN. The book, which reportedly describes how the former American football star would have theoretically committed the murders, was scheduled for release on 30 November (06), following the airing of a two-part interview. Both projects have now been abandoned by News Corps boss RUPERT MURDOCH. In a radio interview yesterday (22NOV06), Simpson insists he didn't commit the murders and that the book was ghostwritten: "I made it clear from the first day I met the writer that I wasn't involved. I said, 'I have nothing to confess.'" Publisher JUDITH REGAN had portrayed the book as representing "OJ's confession" and it reportedly contains a chapter where he explains how he could have committed the killings. Simpson says he deserves criticism for his role in the project and slams Murdoch saying, "I'm taking heat and I deserve it. "But Murdoch should not be taking the high road either." Simpson said he participated in the project purely for the money, adding, "This was an opportunity for my kids to get their financial legacy. "My kids understand. I made it clear that it's blood money, but it's no different than any other writers who did books on this case."
