SIMON COWELL EXPLAINS SPLIT WITH LONG-TERM GIRLFRIEND

X Factor judge Simon Cowell has said celebrity and marriage do not mix after splitting with his girlfriend Terri Seymour.

It was revealed at the weekend that the music mogul and his model partner had ended their relationship two months after six years together.

And speaking to Fox News, Cowell, 48, admitted his career has been, and always will be his priority.

"[Terri] wants a different path in life, and I totally respect her for it. I think in relationships, you have to be totally honest. I have always been and I know Terri knows that.

"Bottom line is I am married to my job."

He continued: "When people moan about been a celebrity, I think 'Oh please, sort yourself out - it's the greatest job in the world.' I wake up daily thanking my lucky stars, but to throw marriage into that mix is not right.

"I have seen too many celebrity marriages that on paper make a great mix, fall apart through ego and just plain celebrity madness."

The X Factor charity single Hero hit the number one spot on Sunday, outselling the rest of the top ten combined with 313,244 units sold.
