SIMMONS HOLDS HIP-HOP SUMMIT OVER 'SEXIST' RAP LYRICS
Music mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS called a meeting of his Hip-Hop Summit Action Network on Wednesday (18Apr07) to discuss the sexist and misogynistic lyrics found in some rap music.
The Def Jam boss was one of a handful of music industry executives who met at the New York home of Warner Music Group's Lyor Cohen for several hours.
It hasn't been announced whether the summit reached a specific agenda over the issue, which was inflamed after US radio host Don Imus called a team of women basketball players "nappy headed hos" during a morning broadcast earlier this month (Apr07).
Imus has since apologised, but bosses at CBS and NBC fired him, while a debate erupted over whether similar language is suitable in rap music.
