SHOWS HONOURED FOR TORTURE SCENES

The writers of U.S. TV dramas LOST, THE SHIELD and CRIMINAL MINDS have been praised for the way they accurately portray torture scenes. New York-based charity Human Rights First has nominated the three shows, together with The Closer and Boston Legal, for the organisation's first Primetime Torture Awards. The bizarre honour will be bestowed on the writers of the drama that best depicts realistic torture and interrogation. Human Rights First spokesman David Danzig says, "As incongruous as it may seem for a human rights group to honour the depiction of torture, these awards recognise that only a handful of TV shows have taken the time necessary to depict torture in a thoughtful, realistic fashion."
