SHERYL CROW CALLS FOR LOO-ROLL CRACKDOWN

Sheryl Crow has urged people to limit their use of toilet paper in an effort to help the fight against global warming.

Although she later insisted her comments had been made in jest, the All I Wanna Do singer has put forward plans to enforce a 'one square of toilet-paper per use' rule, except on "pesky occasions" when more are needed.

Crow, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February last year, is currently involved in a Stop Global Warming tour of US colleges alongside environmental campaigner Laurie David, who produced the Al Gore film An Inconvenient Truth.

On her website blog, Crow wrote: "I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming.

"Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating. One of my favorites is in the area of forest conservation which we heavily rely on for oxygen.

"I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting. Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required."

On a later post, Crow said of the comment: "And by the way guys, the toilet paper thing...it was a JOKE!!"

But despite her attempts to play the toilet-paper comment down, Crow remains determined to pursue the bigger issue with the very top of American society.

"We would welcome the opportunity to engage directly with the Bush administration in a constructive conversation about solutions to the global warming crisis," she added today.
