SHEPARD PLEADS GUILTY TO DUI

Actor/playwright SAM SHEPARD has pleaded guilty to drink driving and speeding.
The Notebook star was arrested after he was caught speeding in Normal, Illinois on 3 January (09). Traffic police discovered he had been drinking alcohol and he was also charged with DUI after a breath test allegedly indicated his blood-alcohol level was almost double the legal limit.
The 65-year-old star was taken to MCLean County jail, where he posted $300 (£200) bail.
In court on Wednesday (11Feb09), Shepard told a judge, "I never intend to drive under the influence again... It's not worth it."
He was placed on 24 months court supervision and ordered to complete an alcohol treatment course.
Shepard was also fined $600 (£420) and handed 100 hours of community service.
