SHEEN URGES EMMY VIEWERS TO VOTE

Actor MARTIN SHEEN joined the recurring political theme at Sunday's (21Sep08) 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, urging U.S. citizens to race to the polls later this year (08) in the upcoming presidential election.
In a segment filmed in a mocked-up version of the Oval Office, Sheen echoed the sentiments of comedians Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and legendary actor Tom Smothers - who joined the plight in hopes of gaining political interest in the minds of undecided voters.
Sheen said: "Our medium has given us a front row seat for the spectacle of inspiration that is the heartbeat of our democracy... It's television that has brought these moments to the American people.
"As viewers of the West Wing know, our show was never in any way partisan in the dramatisation of government. Our show was about one simple fact: that decisions are made by those who show up. And that's why I'm encouraging everyone to take part in America's finest hour and on November 4 (08), vote for the candidate of your choice, at least once."
